Introductions

Hello!
My name is Hanako Jones, and I am currently dually enrolled in the ASD Certificate Program, and well as the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Antioch NE. I work 40 hours at a group home for girls with Borderline Personality Disorder, so I stay busy. This job has given me great personal experience working in the mental health field. Taking a year off between my Bachelor's (I graduated from Marlboro College with a Major in Psychology and a minor in Biology) and Master's programs and working at the home solidified my interest in working with children who have been dealt a bad hand in life.
I wanted to learn more about ASD to supplement my Graduate degree, and enable me to understand those with ASD a little better. My career goal is to use animal-assisted therapy with children. I know that at some point I will be treating children on the spectrum, and so when I do, I will have the knowlage base to be useful to them. While all the classes up to this point have built up a good informational base, this class is the one most relevant to me and my future career. I'm looking foward to learning about counseling those on the spectrum. Although I do not work with anyone with ASD currently, this information will be useful later in my career. I look foward to meeting you and learning about what counseling interventions are effective for people with ASD.
